Evening on the Caney Fork

Many a time I have made the trek from Knoxville to Nashville(or back), whether for school or to visit the girlfriend. I always love the views from the several bridges that cross the Caney Fork River outside of Cookeville. This one particular evening I was driving back with my girlfriend from her parents home, it had been raining on and off, and it was extremely cloudy and a bit depressing. These conditions added up to a very surreal scene on the Caney Fork. I warned Lacey that I may have to pull off if there was an epic shot awaiting me, and there was. I had to run back to the bridge and quickly snap a few HDR shots. The whole time I was imagining a wayward 18-wheeler smashing me into a million pieces, so needless to say I didn’t stay on the bridge very long.

Any time I witness a scene like this there is a little boy in me that goes crazy imagining a canoe trip into the unknown in some distant land. Who or what lives back there? Are they friendly? Where will we pull off to set up camp? Will we make it back safely?

And somehow I stay in between the lines and make it safely home, every time.
